Kuukkeli is located in Kittilä, a Lapland municipality known for its wide landscapes, local culture, and active outdoor life. The area is home to the Levi ski resort and surrounded by fells, forests, and rivers that bring something to experience in every season.
From Kuukkeli, it’s easy to reach Kittilä’s town centre for daily services or to visit nearby places that reflect the region’s northern way of life, reindeer herding, local crafts, and events that connect visitors with Lapland’s traditions.

From The Owner
Kuukkeli is located just a few hundred meters from the Levi Black slope, known for hosting the Alpine Skiing World Cup since 2004, only a few years before the house was built. The area carries a special sporting spirit, and each year the race winner receives, among other prizes, a live reindeer.
Although Kuukkeli sits within a residential area, the surroundings are peaceful and close to nature. It’s common to see reindeer walking through the yard, hares moving quietly nearby, and birds such as Siberian jays — Kuukkeli in Finnish, from which the house takes its name — along with Siberian tits in the trees. This combination of local life and Lapland wildlife makes the setting both distinctive and memorable.
There are also about 230 kilometres of ski trails nearby for those who enjoy cross-country skiing. If you’d like to try something different, the house has four pairs of snowshoes, and you can start right from the yard. One of the best winter walks is to Korkeaniemen laavu, a forest shelter overlooking Lake Immeljärvi. It’s a great spot to make a small snack by the bonfire. If you go skiing, be sure to stop by the small cafés along the trails, called latukahvila. Some are simple lean-to shelters like Kätkäjärven latukahvila and Kätkätunturin latukahvila, perfect places for a warm break in the middle of the snow.

West Ski Lift Station offers direct access to Levi’s quieter slopes and stunning fell scenery. It’s ideal for skiers and snowboarders looking to avoid the busiest lifts while still enjoying excellent runs and smooth connections to the broader trail network.
The area also links to cross-country ski routes and snowmobile trails, making it a perfect starting point for various winter adventures. In the summer and autumn, the lift gives access to hiking and biking routes through peaceful landscapes. With its convenient location and relaxed atmosphere, the West Station is a local favourite for outdoor activities year-round.

Santa´s Village
While in Lapland, a trip to Santa’s Village in Rovaniemi is well worth the drive. It’s about two hours from Levi and offers something for all ages: meeting Santa, crossing the Arctic Circle, and enjoying small cafés and local crafts. It’s especially memorable for families and makes a great day trip during the winter season.
