The house combines original architecture with natural materials and soft colour tones, reflecting both its history and a contemporary sense of Finnish design. Six individually styled guest rooms feature Matri beds with cotton linens and herbal-based bath products, creating a comfortable atmosphere that suits both private stays and group visits.
Shared spaces include a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area for shared meals, and two lounges for spending time together. The breakfast room opens to a garden with apple trees and summer flowers, offering quiet spots for reading or outdoor dining.
Surrounded by Mathildedal’s cafés, small shops, and workshops, Matri House is closely connected to the local community. With Teijo National Park nearby, guests can easily explore forest trails, lakes, and coastal paths — all part of the relaxed rhythm that defines this historic village.

Practicalities
Matri House enjoys a central location in the heart of Matildedal, placing you close to charming neighboring establishments that can at times bring a lively summer atmosphere. Any sounds are typically short-lived and usually quiet down by 11:00 PM.
Pets are allowed only in the following rooms: Edla and Matilda.
Guests have exclusive access to the estate, free Wi-Fi, and parking. Complimentary coffee and tea is provided to enjoy at any time of the day.
No smoking inside: Please refrain from smoking inside the home.
No parties: We kindly ask you to treat our home as your own to preserve its pristine condition for future guests and your return visits.

We kindly ask guests to keep noise at a considerate level to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for everyone. To support this, the property is equipped with noise monitoring devices that measure sound levels only. Your privacy is fully respected.

Matri House is located in Mathildedal, a small coastal village in the Teijo region of Southwest Finland. Known for its ironworks heritage and local craftsmanship, the area is surrounded by forest, lakes, and sea. Life here follows a slower rhythm, shaped by nature and village traditions.
The region is easy to reach—about 1.5 hours from Helsinki, under an hour from Turku, and less than 30 km from Salo. The village itself is walkable, with cafés, small shops, a harbour, and access to Teijo National Park nearby.
While the surroundings are calm, there’s plenty to explore: forest trails, local bakeries and breweries, swimming spots, and occasional community events. Matri House offers a comfortable base for experiencing the quiet charm of Mathildedal and its natural setting.
From The Owner
Matri House found its home in 2022 in the historic ironworks village of Mathildedal, Salo. Originally built in 1840, the Raasepori House was once home to eight ironworks workers’ families. The extensive renovation of this protected building was carefully planned with respect for its original structures and in collaboration with the Finnish Heritage Agency. The restoration preserved and highlighted the building’s original charm, from wooden floors to the upstairs cabinetry, while incorporating fresh, modern details.
Completed in summer 2023, Matri House is a place where history meets timeless design.
Instead of following trends, the interior design was guided by lasting charm and an element of surprise. New furniture was sourced from sustainable and high-quality manufacturers such as Saari Kitchens, Lundia, Fredericia, Sika Design, and Hay, complemented by carefully selected vintage treasures that add character and delight.
Matri beds, which adapt to the body’s shape and movements, complete the inspiring atmosphere. Matri House feels like a home more beautiful than everyday lif, a place to pause, rest, and recharge, where you will always want to return.

Teijo National Park
Right next to the Teijo ironworks villages, this national park showcases diverse Finnish nature—from forests and mires to lakes and sea views. With 50 km of trails, including family-friendly and accessible routes, highlights include the Matildanjärvi loop (6,1km), the Lake Sahajärvi trail (8,8km) with its two manually-pulled ferries, and a welcoming Visitor Centre with maps, a café, and equipment rentals.
Teijo National Park offers great trails to hike for the whole family. The most popular ones are the Totti Nature Trail (1,3km) and the Ant Trail (1,3km). Both routes are easy to hike and comfortable for children as well.
Mathildedal
Mathildedal is a small ironworks village with a character all its own. It hums with artisan bakeries, alpacas, local design shops, and small cafés. Set in a historic building in the heart of the village, Café Mathildedal offers a calm place to pause with a cup of coffee and something freshly baked. The menu features sweet and savoury pastries made on site using local ingredients—from classic cinnamon buns to seasonal berry cakes and handmade pasta in summer. Breakfast is served daily and includes locally sourced produce.
Mathilda Manor
Mathilda manor is a charming restaurant, cafe and bakery with a welcoming atmosphere, tasty, home-made sourdough bread and other delicacies. During Summer you are welcome to enjoy lunch or a freshly-baked pastry with a cup of coffee or tee in the beautifully curated garden. During the Summer season, the manor is also the location of frequent local festivals and other events.
Mathildedal´s Artisan Shops & Makers
Mathildedal’s village centre is home to a small community of local artisans and makers. Visitors can explore a coffee roastery, bakery, brewery, and alpaca wool mill, along with boutiques offering handcrafted textiles and design pieces.
